I'm not holding back functionality to force you into registering. The truth is, I don't trust you yet. Each and every day dozens, hundered - perhaps thousands - of attempts are made to use this site for things it wasn't intended to do (like advertising, sending spam, etc.). To avoid letting that happen I have to raise the bar a little before letting visitors use features that can be abused. Registering with a valid email address is what I require for now.
